Friday June 1

Best Truck in the Cariboo is at Save On Foods today and tomorrow collecting food for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

New Toyota, GM, Ford and Dodge trucks will be in the parking lot in an effort to fill up their boxes with non perishable food items.  The goal is to inspire people to help fill their 'favourite' truck first, making it the' Best Truck In The Cariboo.'   Place non-perishable food bank items in your favourite truck for a chance to 'Spin The Wheel' for great prizes. Let's fill ém up!

New at the Cariboo Growers Market are peppers (red, yellow and orange), cucumbers, Butterhead lettuce, Pak Choy, dried Tigerseye beans and new cuts of grilling beef steaks. There are also some colourful bedding flowers including Marigolds and Petunias from Debbie Irvine, and a single hangin basket left. 

The Williams Lake Farmer’s Market is back in Boitanio Park from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Fridays. They have many wonderful local products, including baked goods, canning, fresh local produce, crafts, lunch, and much more. Call Debbie at 250-989-1522 for more information before 8:00pm.

The Library hosts Preschool Storytime from 10:30am to 11:15am today for ages 3-6.

The Royal Canadian Legion hosts their Friday Meat Draw from 5:00pm to 6:00pm this evening. They are located at 385 Barnard Street in Williams Lake.

Saturday June 2

There will be a Craft and Flea Market in the 150 Mile Centre parking lot every Saturday and Sunday until September 30, 2012. The market will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Table space costs $10.00 per day or $15.00 for the weekend. Call 250-296-4515 for more information.

The 29th Annual Big Lake Fish Derby is a great family event! Registration starts at 6:00am today at the Community Hall lake access in Big Lake. There is a top prize of $1000.00 and a youth prize of $200.00. Registration costs $18.00 a day per adult or $30.00 for two days, and $12.00 per day for youth and seniors or two days for $20.00. There will be a dance tonight to “3rd Degree” from 9:00pm to 1:00am. Dance tickets are $15.00 and are available at the Big Lake Store and Big Lake Community Hall.

The 150 Mile Greenbelt, Trail & Heritage Society will be holding a fundraising barbecue at M&M Meats today from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Proceeds will go to the 150 Mile Society. 

Handmade local pottery will be available for sale today from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Central Cariboo Arts Centre. This sale is for one day only, so don't miss out!

Norden the Magician will be at the Williams Lake library today at 2:30pm. This is a free event. Join them for some fun-filled entertainment!

Join everyone at the annual Williams Lake Relay For Life to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who have been lost to the disease, and fight back! Events run from 5:00pm on today to 7:00am on Sunday June 3 in Boitanio Park.

The Legion hosts their Saturday Meat Draw from 3:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon.

Sunday June 3

Sundays at the Legion, crib and shuffleboard will be available beginning at 1:00pm. Everyone is welcome.

Monday June 4

StrongStart is held at Cataline, Mountview, and Marie Sharpe Elementary Schools each week from Monday to Friday. The program is available from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

The Caribou Brain Injury Society has a Coping Strategies Group which meets every Monday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The group aims to help survivors of brain injury learn positive methods of coping with the effects of their injury. To register for this group, contact the Society at 250-392-7772 for an intake meeting, as this group is for victims of acquired brain injury.

Tuesday June 5

150 Mile House Elementary School has the StrongStart Program from 8:30am to 11:30am every Tuesday.

Free Storytime in Kiwanis Park will be available each Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:00am under the tree. This event is weather permitting and is for all ages.

Rhyme and Storytime is available for ages 0-5 and their parent or caregiver at Glendale Elementary School every Tuesday from 9:30am to 10:15am.

The Library offers Toddler Time from 10:30am to 11:00am every Tuesday for ages 0-3.

There is a women's bible study every Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Salvation Army (next door to the thrift store). All interested women are welcome to join.

The University of Victoria Centre on Aging is currently looking for persons to co-lead the Chronic Pain Self-Management Program (CPSMP). The CPSMP is a free volunteer-led education program for people living with chronic pain. If you are interested in developing group facilitation skills to share strategies for healthier living and supporting others in your community, this free workshop may be for you. The program will run from 9:00am to 4:00pm from Tuesday June 5 to Friday June 8 at the Central Interior Community Services Co-op. Call 1-866-902-3767 to register.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy and Cariboo Regional District Library are offering ‘Focus on Financial Literacy,’ a series of free workshops at the Williams Lake Library from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. Tonight's workshop is 'Financial Planning.'

Wednesday June 7

The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex Fitness Centre offers Free Seniors Fitness Orientation for those adults 55 and older. Registered personal trainer Judy Orosz will provide an orientation to the facility and teach you about how to use the equipment safely, gym etiquette, and what times of the day would be best for you to work out. She will help you gain confidence in using the equipment and answer any questions you have regarding your own fitness. Please call 250-398-7665 in advance to book your complimentary session.

Chilcotin Road and Nesika Elementary Schools host Rhyme and Storytime each Wednesday for children ages 0-5 and their parent or caregiver. Chilcotin Road hosts the program from 9:30am to 10:15am and Nesika hosts from 11:00am to 11:45am.

The Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at C.J.’s Southwestern Grill at 12:05pm.

From 6:30pm to 7:30pm on Wednesdays at the Salvation Army, join Ellen Paynton for a Women’s Only Fitness Class. This is a free program for women and child minding is available. Call the Women’s Contact Society at 250-392-4118 for more information.

The Hobbit House hosts a Meditation Workshop every Wednesday from May 23 to June 20. The workshop will be held at The Hobbit House from 7:00pm to 8:00pm and the cost is $50.00. The 202 Chilcotin Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps and 3064 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps would like to invite the public to attend the first ever combined Annual Ceremonial Review and showcase of our Williams Lake youth ages 12 to 18. The ceremony official begins at 6:15pm sharp this evening at the Elk's Hall at 98 South First Avenue. Cadets will demonstrate drill movements and other aspects of training that they have learned throughout the year. It will be a wonderful opportunity for the whole family and a chance for potential recruits to see what the FREE cadet program has to offer. There will be refreshments to follow.

Join everyone down at Scout Island Nature Centre at 7:30pm for "Why are there more species in the tropics? The view from a fossil fly's eye" with Dr. Bruce Archibald. Dr. Archibald is a paleontologist who studies fossil insect communities to understand how climate and communities interact. Since earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Simon Fraser and a Ph.D. in paleontology from Harvard, he has been examining insects of the McAbee fossil beds in BC’s Interior. By looking back in time through the lens of paleontology, he is shedding light on how global patterns of biodiversity, climate and geography are connected. Bruce recently presented this talk to the Vancouver Paleontology Society, and now it’s coming to Scout Island!

Thursday June 8

Wildwood Elementary School hosts the StrongStart Program each Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

The graduation ceremony for G.R.O.W. (Graduation Routes Other Ways) will take place at Marie Sharpe Elementary School today at 1:00pm. Congratulations to all of our graduates!

Every Thursday, the Legion Branch 139 hosts Pasta Thursday, a Legion fundraiser. Dinner is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and includes pasta and sauce, garlic bread, and caesar salad, all for just $6.00. The Legion would like to welcome the community to participate in this wonderful evening of good food and great company.

Join author Jay Sherwood tonight at 7:30pm at the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin for a photographic adventure through British Columbia with Gerry Andrews, a true 20th-century man. Born in 1903, Gerry Andrews had many adventures in his lifetime of almost 102 years. He worked as a rural school teacher, a forester, a soldier and a surveyor. His developments in aerial photography dramatically changed forestry in BC in the late 1930s and assisted the Allies in the D-Day landing. As BC's surveyor-general (1951-68), he supervised the mapping of the province's large construction projects.
