Friday May 25

The Williams Lake Farmer’s Market is back in Boitanio Park from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Fridays. They have many wonderful local products, including baked goods, canning, fresh local produce, crafts, lunch, and much more.

The Library hosts Preschool Storytime from 10:30am to 11:15am today for ages 3-6.

S.A.G.E Trainers are having a car wash at 7-Eleven today from 11:00am to 4:00pm. They are fundraising for jackets and July graduation costs.

The Royal Canadian Legion hosts their Friday Meat Draw from 5:00pm to 6:00pm this evening. They are located at 385 Barnard Street in Williams Lake. On the last Friday of the month they offer a steak dinner with dancing to music by Perfect Match.

Interior Health is hosting their annual Kindergarten Immunization Clinics on May 25 and May 28th.  If your child starts Kindergarten in September, please call Interior Health at 250-302-5000 to make an appointment. Every couple of years the Cariboo Gold Dance Band and Quintet Plus join musical forces to present an evening of varied instrumental and vocal music. This evening at 7:00pm at St. Andrews United Church, they present 'That Swing Thing' for your listening pleasure. Several original choral arrangements have been written so that Quintet Plus can join the Cariboo Gold Dance Band in performance. Additionally, this year, an original song dedicated to Terry Fox, Steve Fonyo, and Rick Hansen, entitled, "Terry, Steve, and Rick," (written by Rocco Catalano) will be premiered by Quintet Plus and the Cariboo Gold Dance Band at the end of the concert. This is a benefit concert for Local Outreach in the Williams Lake Area, United Church, and The Cariboo Music Festival Society. Admission is by donation.

Saturday May 26

There will be a Craft and Flea Market in the 150 Mile Centre parking lot every Saturday and Sunday until September 30, 2012. The market will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Table space costs $10.00 per day or $15.00 for the weekend. Call 250-296-4515 for more information.

The Williams Lake and District Branch of the SPCA will be at Save On Foods today with their Annual Giant Garage Sale. Supporters of the SPCA bring all of their donated items and the proceeds go to the SPCA. They will be there rain or shine, so join them to support rescued animals and our wonderful local volunteers! Any and all donations for the sale are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the Branch on Bond Lake Road or at the Williams Lake Vet Clinic.

This weekend is the Lakers Car Club's 18th Annual Spring Roundup, May 26 and 27. The event begins Saturday with pre-registration at A&W in Williams Lake at 1:00pm for a Roundup Poker Run. There will be a Steak BBQ at 5:00pm at the Stampede Grounds, followed by a 7:00pm Thunder Mountain Speedway Cruise. Sunday will be the Lakers Car Club Show and Shine on Third Avenue downtown. Gates will open at 8:30am and the show begins at 10:00am. There will be an awards presentation at 3:30pm with 66 trophies for 50 classes. There is a $10.00 participant entry fee and they will have raffles, goodie bags, door prizes, dash plaques for the first 200 entries and a kid's coloring contest, as well as a Ladies' Only Poker Run downtown. Finally, there will also be a Children's Festival at Boitanio Park hosted by the Child Development Centre on Sunday.

Also this weekend is 'Horsin’ Around in the Cariboo,' an Equine Versatility Competition at the Eagleview Equestrian Centre. Horses will compete in four different events, and they will have trade booths, a horse sale barn, tack sale, concession, and kids’ corral. The Centre is located at 2458 Tawny Way in Williams Lake and events will run Saturday May 26 to Sunday May 27. Call 250-296-0085 for more information (evenings).

The Legion hosts their Saturday Meat Draw from 3:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon.

Sunday May 27

The annual Children's Festival takes place in Boitanio Park today from 10:00am to 3:00pm, with games, crafts, entertainment, activities, food, demonstrations and prizes for kids and families.

Carol Grosso's Relay For Life Team 'Volunteers For Hope' is hosting a fundraiser Breakfast and Garage Sale today at the Senior's Activity Center from 9:00am to 1:00pm. We have a European Chef making sweet or savory crepes for $10.00 per adult, which includes coffee, tea, or juice.

There will be a trail ride today from Minton Creek Ranch to Williams Lake to support the Children's Wish Foundation. Minton Creek Ranch is located at 4442 Highway 97 North and the ride begins at 9:00am. Collect pledges and join other riders for this worthy cause. Call 250-989-5526 for more information or to obtain a pledge sheet.

There will be monthly adult arts and crafts courses with Maureen Chappell of Creative Hands. The course at 150 Mile Hall will be held from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on the fourth Monday of every month and will feature many different projects throughout the year. The fee is $40.00 per week and all supplies will be provided. Creative Hands reserves the right to cancel a course if there is insufficient interest. To register, call 250-620-3367.

Sundays at the Legion, crib and shuffleboard will be available beginning at 1:00pm. Everyone is welcome.

The Vegetarian Supper Club meets on the fourth Sunday of every month. Please bring your favorite vegetarian dish to share in this potluck-style evening and enjoy a food demonstration and health lecture. Dinner begins at 7:00pm at the Cariboo Lifestyle Centre, located at 26 Woodland Drive.

There will be a performance this evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm by the participants of Mutya Macatumpag's workshops. She is an artist, dancer, vocalist, choreographer, actress, and youth facilitator. The performance will be held at the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Centre and the cost is free or by donation.

Monday May 28

StrongStart is held at Cataline, Mountview, and Marie Sharpe Elementary Schools each week from Monday to Friday. The program is available from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

The Caribou Brain Injury Society has a Coping Strategies Group which meets every Monday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The group aims to help survivors of brain injury learn positive methods of coping with the effects of their injury. To register for this group, contact the Society at 250-392-7772 for an intake meeting, as this group is for victims of acquired brain injury.

Tuesday May 29

150 Mile House Elementary School has the StrongStart Program from 8:30am to 11:30am every Tuesday.

Rhyme and Storytime is available for ages 0-5 and their parent or caregiver at Glendale Elementary School every Tuesday from 9:30am to 10:15am.

The Library offers Toddler Time from 10:30am to 11:00am every Tuesday for ages 0-3.

There is a women's bible study every Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Salvation Army (next door to the thrift store). All interested women are welcome to join.

Come to the library today at 4:00pm to learn how to make a Duct Tape Rose and Belt. This is a free event for ages 13 to 18. For more information, call Caroline Derksen at 250-392-3351, extension 220.

Wednesday May 30

The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex Fitness Centre offers Free Seniors Fitness Orientation for those adults 55 and older. Registered personal trainer Judy Orosz will provide an orientation to the facility and teach you about how to use the equipment safely, gym etiquette, and what times of the day would be best for you to work out. She will help you gain confidence in using the equipment and answer any questions you have regarding your own fitness. Please call 250-398-7665 in advance to book your complimentary session.

Chilcotin Road and Nesika Elementary Schools host Rhyme and Storytime each Wednesday for children ages 0-5 and their parent or caregiver. Chilcotin Road hosts the program from 9:30am to 10:15am and Nesika hosts from 11:00am to 11:45am.

The Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at C.J.’s Southwestern Grill at 12:05pm.

From 5:15pm to 6:15pm each Wednesday and Thursday until June 13, join a group at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex parking lot for the Ultimate Hill Climb. Call the Complex at 250-398-7665 for more information or to sign up.

From 6:30pm to 7:30pm on Wednesdays at the Salvation Army, join Ellen Paynton for a Women’s Only Fitness Class. This is a free program for women and child minding is available. Call the Women’s Contact Society at 250-392-4118 for more information.

This evening at the Library at 7:00pm, enjoy 'The Hole Story,' a documentary. The vast territories of northern Quebec and Ontario contain a wealth of mineral resources. For more than 100 years, they have been controlled by private companies governed by Canada’s amazingly anachronistic Mining Act, which takes precedence over all other legislation. This film tells the story of how these resources have been exploited, and the battles they have provoked.

The Hobbit House hosts a Meditation Workshop every Wednesday from May 23 to June 20. The workshop will be held at The Hobbit House from 7:00pm to 8:00pm and the cost is $50.00. Thursday May 31

The TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) BC Group 4145 meets every Thursday across from Safeway. The meetings are from 8:45am to 10:00am. For more information or directions, call Ada at 250-398-5757 or Corinne at 250-392-4772.

Wildwood Elementary School hosts the StrongStart Program each Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. 

Drop-In Traditional Rug Hooking Classes are available every Thursday. Join this free class to learn how to make your own rugs from new and recycled fabrics. Call Sharon at 250-296-4432 for more information.

Every Thursday, the Legion Branch 139 hosts Pasta Thursday, a Legion fundraiser. Dinner is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and includes pasta and sauce, garlic bread, and caesar salad, all for just $6.00. The Legion would like to welcome the community to participate in this wonderful evening of good food and great company.
