Friday January 27

The Library hosts Preschool Storytime from 10:30am to 11:15am for ages 3-6.

The Royal Canadian Legion hosts their Friday Meat Draw from 5:00pm to 6:00pm this evening. They also hosts their popular Steak Nite tonight at 5:30pm, followed by a dance to Perfect Match.

New at the Cariboo Growers Market are Keremeos Cherries (pitted and frozen), yogurt from Gort’s Gouda and fruit leather (with Saskatoon and Huckleberries) from Fraserbench Farms.

“Let’s Talk About Food”, a second Local Food Forum will be held at the Thompson Rivers University Cafeteria from 9:00am to 2:00pm today. This event will concentrate on creating a Second Food Action Plan, celebrate local food accomplishments, identify new opportunities for action and local food priorities, and brainstorm the next steps and action planning for the next five years. All are welcome to participate in this free event and there will be lunch available by a small donation. The Legion hosts their Saturday Meat Draw from 3:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon.

Free Family Astronomy will be at Scout Island Nature Centre from 6:00pm to 8:00pm this evening. Steve and Lynn Capling will facilitate this event, which will involve viewing the night sky and learning about astronomy. Bring warm clothes and gloves, binoculars, and something to sit or lie down on. They ask that no one bring flashlights or headlamps, as these make it more difficult to see the night sky. Monday January 30

The StrongStart program is available for ages 0-5 from Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm at Marie Sharpe, Cataline, and Mountview Elementary Schools. This is a play-based learning program and is a great way to get your little one ready for kindergarten.

Tuesday January 31

150 Mile House Elementary School has the StrongStart program every Tuesday from 8:30am to 11:30am.

The Library offers Toddler Time from 10:30am to 11:00am every Tuesday for ages 0-3.

The Station House Gallery has After-School Art Classes each Tuesday and Wednesday. This is a fun, flexible program which offers multiple learning opportunities. There is a City Council Budget Meeting this evening in Council Chambers at City Hall, beginning at 6:00pm. The community is welcome to attend this public meeting as Council discusses the 2012 Budget and five-year financial plan for our city.

Wednesday February 1

For the month of February, children from ages 9 through 12 are invited to participate in the XploreSportz Program, in which they will have the opportunity to learn seven different sports. The Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at C.J.’s Southwestern Grill at 12:05pm.

The Williams Lake Speed Skating club meets for practice each Wednesday from 3:15pm to 4:15pm. The cost is $75.00 for ten sessions. For more information, contact Yvonne at 250-398-2354.

From 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Salvation Army, join Ellen Paynton for a Women’s Only Fitness Class. This is a free program for women, and child minding is available. Call the Women’s Contact Society at 250-392-4118 for more information.

The Chocolate Farmer, a documentary, will be shown at the library this evening beginning at 7:00pm. The film is about 71 minutes long and details the life of a cacao farmer in Belize named Eladio Pop. He and his family try to farm in the ways of their Mayan ancestors and preserve their values in a dramatically changing world. For more information, call 250-392-3351 ext. 220.

Thursday February 2

Wildwood Elementary School has the StrongStart program from 9:00am to 12:00pm each Thursday.

This week’s Armchair Traveler event at the Library will be about a “Road Tour of Ireland and Scotland” with Guy Newsome. The evening begins at 7:00pm, and as there is limited seating, pre-registration is recommended. Call 250-392-3630 for more information or to register.
