ATV rider goes through the ice on Lac La Hache
| News |
On February 3 at 4:31pm 100 Mile House RCMP received a call of a male who had been operating his All Terrain Vehicle on Lac La Hache near Abbey Frontage Road.
The caller stated they heard a crack and noticed the rider had disappeared through the ice. The caller was unable to get close enough to the rider to pull him to safety as the ice was weak in spots and there was open water where the rider went into the lake.
108 Mile House Fire Department and 100 Mile House Search and Rescue were called to perform the ice rescue and within minutes of arriving on scene were able to safely retrieve the male rider from the water. The male was transported to 100 Mile House Hospital by Paramedics, but even with all the life saving measures attempted, the rider was pronounced dead by doctors shortly after arrival at Hospital.
The name of the victim is being withheld as per the request of the family. BC Coroner Service is still investigating the matter.
