News
011512_snowmobile_crashTwo Quesnel men have been airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital after a serious snowmobile crash which occurred on Saturday night.

Shortly after 10:00pm on Saturday, January 14, Quesnel RCMP and BC Ambulance Services responded to a report of a collision on Lombardie Drive.

Investigation revealed that an unlicensed snowmobile traveling at a high rate of speed struck a parked vehicle resulting in very serious injuries to the sled’s two occupants. The helmet of one of the men flew off during the collision and was located on the ground more than twenty feet away.

A 26 year old male and a 34 year old male were initially transported to Quesnel’s G.R. Baker Hospital with multiple fractures to the lower limbs. They have now been airlifted to the trauma unit of Vancouver General Hospital. Their condition is described as serious but non life threatening at this time.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation although speed is believed to be a factor.

"Quesnel RCMP encourage snowmobilers to play it safe" stated Constable Krista Vrolyk. "Stick to well groomed paths and be aware that any motor vehicle that is operated on a public roadway requires insurance - this includes snowmobiles and ATVs. Operate within your limits and ability and always ensure that your helmet is properly secured."
