Investigation into suspicious events led to determination of homicide

RCMP investigators make determination that the October 11, death of Lorne Wilf Strikes-With-A-Gun from the Bonaparte First Nations Reserve near Ashcroft was a homicide.
Brandon Edward Knife, also from the Bonaparte First Nations Reserve, has been charged with manslaughter.
On the evening of October 11, 2011, the Kamloops RCMP were notified by the Royal Inland Hospital, of the death of 44 year old Lorne Strikes-With-A-Gun. Mr. Strikes-With-A-Gun had arrived at the Ashcroft Hospital on the afternoon of October 10, suffering from injuries that were at the time believed to have been caused by an accident at the family home on the Bonaparte First Nations Reserve near Cache Creek. Mr. Strikes-With-A-Gun had been transferred from Ashcroft that afternoon by Air Ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
"The investigation to date has determined that Lorne Strikes-With-A-Gun died as a result of injuries that he sustained at his home during an altercation on the afternoon of October 10. The accused, Brandon Knife, and Lorne Strikes-With-A-Gun were known to each other," stated RCMP spokesperson Corporal Moskaluk.
On the afternoon of October 12, 18 year old Mr. Knife surrendered himself to the Ashcroft detachment and was formally charged with Manslaughter on October 13. Mr. Knife was remained in custody until the afternoon of October 14, in Kamloops Provincial Court, at which time he was released on bail with conditions.
The investigation continues to be led by the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit with assistance from the Ashcroft detachment, Kamloops Serious Crimes Unit and Kamloops Forensic Identification Section.
