RCMPshield_crest2100 Mile House RCMP responded to 92 complaints and calls for service this past week. Some highlights are below.

On August 10, at around 12:30pm 100 Mile House RCMP received a report of a pedestrian-versus-vehicle collision on Highway 97 at Alpine Avenue.  Police investigated and it was learned that a Highways worker had been hit by a vehicle and was taken to hospital.  The worker had been conducting traffic when he was struck by a silver and gold Toyota pick-up travelling at about 30 kms/hour.  The worker sustained only minor injuries.  No license plate was ever obtained.  Police continue to investigate the incident.

On the morning of August 11, a worker at the Car Depot car lot reported that gas had been siphoned out of three vehicles on the car lot.  The worker on site indicated that when he arrived at work the gas covers on the cars were open and gas had been stolen.  There were no witnesses to the incident.

In the afternoon of August 11, 100 Mile House RCMP stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 97 at 96 Mile.   The police asked the driver for his drivers license, but he could not produce it.  When the driver was later identified further checks revealed that the driver was a vehicle impound candidate.  The vehicle was towed, and the police issued a violation ticket to the driver.

On August 13, police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision between a pick-up truck and a semi truck on Highway 97 in the construction zone at 132 Mile.  Police spoke with both drivers involved in the collision  and their investigation revealed that the driver of the pick-up motioned for the driver of the semi truck to slow down, which he did not.  The driver of the pick-up got ahead of the semi truck in an attempt to get out and speak with the driver of the semi.  The pick-up driver stopped and opened the door of his truck; the semi driver ended up striking instead of driving into the path of oncoming traffic.  The driver of the pick-up was charged with Open Door While Unsafe.  Police remind the motoring public not to take their frustration out on other drivers.  However, if they notice an infraction taking place, to take note of the license plate of the offending vehicle and call police.

On August 14 at approximately 3:30pm, 100 Mile House RCMP responded to a complaint of a Break and Enter in progress in the 6000 block of Highway 24 near Lone Butte.   Upon arrival, police located a male inside the residence who claimed to be a friend of the home owner.  Investigation revealed that the home owner and the suspect were not friends and the suspect was arrested on two outstanding warrants.  During a search, nine Morphine pills were located on the subject.  Follow-up investigation indicated that the male was on probation for assault and was not to be in possession of any controlled substances.  Police are seeking charges of Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000 and Breach of Probation.  The male, well known to police, was held in custody to appear before a judge on the matter.
