67 year old man arrested after attempted abduction in Quesnel

On August 10, at approximately 7:30pm, a 67 year old male attempted to pull a 14 year old girl into a wooded area near North Fraser Drive and Edkins Street. The girl was able to escape uninjured and immediately ran to a nearby residence for help. The police were contacted and several RCMP members quickly responded to the scene of the offence. The young victim provided a detailed description of the male and police immediately began conducting patrols in the area.
RCMP members located a male suspect who matched the description and was in the immediate vicinity of the offence. The male was arrested and held in custody to appear before a Judge on August 11, 2010. The Quesnel RCMP are recommending charges of assault and sexual interference.
The Quesnel RCMP would like to remind people, in particular, young people to walk in groups, stay away from secluded areas and be aware of your surroundings.
