Structural Fire Apparatus and Fire Fighters Deployed Alexis Creek
| News |
Alexis Creek, BC – Evacuation Alert Remains in Effect for Bull Canyon, Redstone and Puntzi Lake Areas. The Cariboo Regional District, in response to a resource request from the Office of the Fire Commissioner, has arranged for nine pieces of structural and wild land interface fire apparatus and twenty one fire fighters to be deployed to the Ministry of Forests fire camp at Bull Canyon. These strike teams will complement the sprinkler system units already deployed over a stretch of Highway 20 in the evacuation alert area and will be staged in various areas to deal with possible fire brands and encroachment of fire on homes. The fire fighters and apparatus have been pulled from a combination of CRD and independent fire halls throughout the Cariboo, being careful to ensure that fire fighting capabilities of these communities remain intact.
So far there has been no structural damage in the alert area and this is a pre-planning exercise to further provide for the safety and health of all responders, the public and infrastructure.
The evacuation order for the Scum Lake area remains in place and the Newton-Whitewater Road remains closed by the Ministry of Transportation. Informational traffic control stations have been set up in the immediate area. Any unnecessary travel to this area should be avoided at this time.
