** This article was amended per revised Press Release issued by the Cariboo Regional District on Sunday, August 30, 2009.

Chilcotin – Two meetings have been scheduled to take place for residents living within the evacuation alert area of the Chilcotin. Representatives from the Ministry of Forests and Range, the Cariboo Fire Centre and the Cariboo Regional District will be on hand to provide updates about the Lava Canyon fire, answer general questions about the evacuation alert and to provide helpful information to residents should the situation escalate to an evacuation order.

The first meeting will take place at 1:00 pm, Sunday, August 30, at the Ministry of Forests office in Alexis Creek, while the second meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Cultural Centre of the Redstone Reserve. All residents residing in the evacuation alert area are encouraged to attend.

Earlier today, a state of emergency and an evacuation alert had been declared by the Tsi Del Del First Nations, also known as the Alexis Creek First Nations.

Yesterday, the Cariboo Regional District put an evacuation alert in place for residents living within the Bull Canyon area, west to, and including Puntzi Lake as a result of the Lava Canyon Fire.

A total of 228 Chilcotin residents are affected by this alert, including 126 residents of the Redstone Reserve. A map of the affected areas is available on the CRD website at www.cariboord.bc.ca
