100 Mile House RCMP highlights to June 7, 2010

100 Mile House RCMP responded to 67 complaints and calls for service over the last week. Some highlights are below.
On June 2, 100 Mile House RCMP received a report of a theft of a chainsaw from the back o f a pickup that was parked behind the library. The theft occurred between 1:30pm and 3:00pm. The chainsaw is described as a STIHL, model MS390 with a 24 inch bar kit.
On June 3, 100 Mile House RCMP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver travelling south on Highway 97. The vehicle was located near the 108 Mile Ranch and pulled over. An approved screening device was used roadside which resulted in the driver being detained for Impaired Driving. The driver was returned to the detachment where two breath samples were obtained of 120 and 130mg%. Charges of Impaired Driving and Driving over the legal limit are being recommended to Crown against a 49 year old male resident of the Lower Mainland with a court date in August.
On June 5, 100 Mile House RCMP were conducting patrols when a vehicle was observed failing to stop at a stop sign on Birch Avenue in 100 Mile House. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and an approved screening device was used. The results of this exam led to the driver being detained for impaired driving. The driver was returned to the detachment, where two breath samples were obtained of 110mg%. Charges of impaired driving and Driving over the legal limit are being recommended to Crown against a 29 year old male resident of the Lower Mainland with a court date in August.
On June 5, 100 Mile House Traffic Services were conducting a check stop for impaired drivers. A vehicle approached the check stop and the driver showed signs of intoxication by alcohol. The driver was unable to comply with the demand to provide breath samples and was taken to hospital where blood samples were obtained. The driver was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition and released pending the results from the laboratory. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
On June 6, residents in the area of Heller Road near 100 Mile House were awoken at 3:15am to the sounds of people yelling commands, a distressed voice and glass breaking. Believing that a home invasion was occurring, the 100 Mile RCMP Detachment was contacted. When Police arrived on scene they were met by two occupants of the residence. Investigators were given vague descriptions of five male suspects with three being Caucasian and two being African-Canadian descent, who had come to the residence with machetes, but had fled. As the residence was being cleared, a marijuana grow operation was discovered. The two occupants of the residence were detained while more resources, including the Police Dog were in to look for the individuals who had been involved. After an extensive search, no suspects were located.
The occupants of the residence were taken to 100 Mile House detachment and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. 1973 marijuana plants in various stages of production were seized along with marijuana production equipment. Charges of Production of Marijuana and Possession for the purpose of trafficking are being recommended to Crown against a male and female residents of the Lower Mainland with a court date in September.
This incident is believed to be an attempted "grow rip", where individuals use violence or the threat of violence to steal illegally grown marijuana. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
