The 100 Mile House RCMP responded to 72 calls for service over the last week.
On May 4 at approximately 11:00am, the RCMP were called to a complaint of two males fighting in front of Tim Horton's on Highway 97 South at 1 Street. Further investigation revealed that the two males involved were ages 49 and 50 years old. The incident stemmed from a road rage incident where a professional truck driver alleges that the driver of an SUV had pulled out in front of him at an intersection in town. The professional truck driver then stopped and confronted the other motorist at the stop light over the driving incident. This resulted in a physical confrontation of shoving and the professional truck driver then returned to his truck to retrieve a metal bar as a weapon. The other motorist had his vehicle windows smashed, which resulted in further physical confrontation in the middle of the intersection. When police arrived on scene, both males were injured and were being tended to by several pedestrians. Ambulance was dispatched, one male was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and the other male was released at the scene. Police are recommending charges of Assault With a Weapon and Mischief against the professional truck driver.
On May 7 at approximately 12:30pm, a member of the 100 Mile House RCMP attempted to stop a speeding vehicle heading south on Highway 97 South. The vehicle initially fled from the police up a rural gravel road near 99 Mile. A short time after the vehicle fled, there were shots heard in the rural area where the vehicle was last seen. Police attempted to locate the suspect vehicle and discovered it a short while later south of 100 Mile House, where is fled for a second time. When police pursued the vehicle for a short distance, it was determined that it was in the safety of the public to terminate the pursuit and a police helicopter was approaching to assist with the surveillance of the suspect vehicle. It was at this time that the vehicle blew its transmission and had stopped in a driveway on Highway 24. The 29 year old male driver, and his 49 year old male passenger were taken into custody. The driver was determined to be under the influence of liquor; a subsequent reading of the drivers blood alcohol level revealed that he was under the legal limit, but his drivers license was suspended. The driver and passenger are both known to police. Police are recommending charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from a Police Officer under the Criminal Code. The driver will have to appear in 100 Mile House Court on July 6, 2010. The shots heard in the area where the vehicle was last seen were later determined by an investigator to be unrelated.
On May 7 at approximately 5:00am, 100 Mile House RCMP responded to a single vehicle incident which occurred on Highway 97 South at 99 Mile. A northbound semi tractor unit was on it's passenger side and leaking diesel. 100 Mile House Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service attended to the scene, there were no injuries. Further investigation revealed that the driver, a 46 year old male, had claimed to have swerved to miss a deer, however it was determined that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Charges of Drive Without Due Care and Attention and Fail to Maintain Accurate Daily Logs were issued to the driver of the transport truck.
On May 7 at 12:00pm, a member of the 100 Mile House Traffic Services Unit observed a dirt bike travelling south on Highway 97 South near the 108 Mile House Heritage site. The officer attempted to stop the dirt bike at the 108 Mile Race Trac Gas when the rider took off, spraying rocks at the front of the police vehicle. The dirt bike did not stop for emergency equipment and was not pursued by the officer. The dirt bike was later located a short distance away with a flat tie and the rider was arrested. The rider, a 31 year old local resident, will have to appear in court on August 3, 2010 for the recommended Criminal Code charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from a Peace Officer.
