Bella Coola is among twenty communities across BC that will benefit from greater flood protection thanks to a joint investment by the governments of Canada and British Columbia.
The announcement, made today by the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, on behalf of the Honourable Shirley Bond, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General for British Columbia, is aimed at helping communities meet their pressing infrastructure needs, protecting families and communities’ critical infrastructure, and supporting continued economic growth.

Two new $1000 prizes have been added to Science World’s BC Green Games contest, to promote energy conservation awareness in schools across BC. Students are encouraged to document their energy conservation success stories and submit them online before March 1. The addition of these prizes brings the total prize money to be awarded to BC schools to $24,000.

Serious injuries after snowmobile strikes parked vehicle

Two Quesnel men have been airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital after a serious snowmobile crash which occurred on Saturday night.
Shortly after 10:00pm on Saturday, January 14, Quesnel RCMP and BC Ambulance Services responded to a report of a collision on Lombardie Drive.
Investigation revealed that an unlicensed snowmobile traveling at a high rate of speed struck a parked vehicle resulting in very serious injuries to the sled’s two occupants. The helmet of one of the men flew off during the collision and was located on the ground more than twenty feet away.

Two Quesnel schools locked down after RCMP receive report of man with a gun

At approximately 2:30pm this afternoon, Quesnel RCMP received a 911 call reporting a young male wearing a brown jacket running toward Quesnel’s Correlieu Secondary school with a rifle.
Quesnel RCMP took immediate action, notifying both Correlieu Secondary and nearby Ecole Baker Elementary School of the situation and commencing school lock down procedures.
All available police resources were deployed to the schools and their immediate vicinity in search of the suspect. Staff and students at both schools were required to remain in the classrooms of the building until RCMP officers had effectively searched the schools and the surrounding area for any threat to their safety.

Thief locks himself in stolen Corvette

On October 23 at approximately 3:10pm, Prince George RCMP responded to a report of a male with an axe attempting to steal a Corvette from a driveway on Francois Crescent in Prince George. The owner of the Corvette had just 'jump started' the battery and was putting the battery charger in the garage when a male jumped in the running Corvette, locked the power door locks, shut the power windows and attempted to drive away.

Today, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), together with Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, welcomed the launch of BizPaL to 40 additional municipalities in British Columbia.

Three additional homicide charges laid in northern BC investigation

The RCMP announced in Prince George this week that a series of homicide charges have been laid in connection with one investigation dating back to 2009 and two investigations from 2010. This statement was issued by Inspector Brendan Fitzpatrick, E Division Major Crime Section.
(Three charges of first-degree murder have been laid against 21-year-old Cody Legebokoff.)

The Prince George RCMP are requesting to speak with Tyler Eugene Fetterly, a 26 year old Prince George man.
Mr. Fetterly is not a suspect, merely a person who may have information necessary to further a police investigation.

Investigation into suspicious events led to determination of homicide

RCMP investigators make determination that the October 11, death of Lorne Wilf Strikes-With-A-Gun from the Bonaparte First Nations Reserve near Ashcroft was a homicide.
Brandon Edward Knife, also from the Bonaparte First Nations Reserve, has been charged with manslaughter.

Clinton RCMP seek public assistance in identifying alleged thieves

The Clinton RCMP are investigating a break and enter and theft from a cottage on Machete Lake reported in September. A camouflaged motion activated camera did capture images of the suspects, their vehicle and pets, investigators seeking media and public assistance in identifying the group.
