053112_rowat_fire_2Cariboo Fire Centre personnel have responded to seven new fire starts since Sunday. All but one of these fires are suspected to have been caused by lightning.

The largest fire that resulted from the weekend’s storms grew to just over four hectares in size. This fire is approximately 25 kilometres southwest of Riske Creek and is 100 per cent contained and into the patrol stage.

"We have received a significant amount of lightning throughout the region within the last few days, and the Cariboo Fire Centre will be monitoring for more holdover fire starts as the temperatures increase and the moisture dissipates," stated Jenny Fremlin, Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre.

To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, please call *5555 on your cell phone or call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free.
