073112_couch_fireA resident of the apartment building at the corner of Borland Street and 7th Avenue said he used three fire extinguishers on a sofa fire in the alley between the apartments and the Sandman Inn after calling '911'.

The Williams Lake Fire Department arrived on scene quickly and took over extinguishing the fire and utilities pole, and then mopped up.

The couch was destroyed and there was some damage done to a utility pole that the couch had been leaning against, but there did not appear to be any injuries. Although the resident, who did not wish to be named, said he thought some kids may have caused the fire by playing with matches, that has not been confirmed at this time.
