Williams Lake Fire Department food drive another big success
| News |
People in the Williams Lake community embraced the opportunity today to ‘deck the halls’ in July, celebrating the joy of Christmas giving with the help of the Williams Lake Fire Department.
The annual ‘Christmas in July’ event is the Williams Lake Fire Department’s way of filling up empty shelves in the Salvation Army Food Bank. It’s the halfway mark between Christmas seasons, when generous food drives and fundraisers keep the food bank stocked.
Members of the Williams Lake Fire Department said today that people were very organized and prepared this year—stacking bags and boxes by the door. One fire fighter said that people were so generous that it sometimes required him to pack two armloads to the truck. There were case lots of things like soups and noodles.
Approximately 20 fire fighters went door to door in areas throughout Williams Lake, driving fire trucks, pick up truck and city trucks to haul all the food to the fire hall, where the Salvation Army will pick it up tomorrow.
Tomorrow food donations can be dropped off at Western Financial Group at 565 Oliver Street.
