Rural fringe fire protection current agreements continue
| News |
City Council passed a resolution on June 19 that supported a continuation of the current agreements to provide Williams Lake rural fringe fire protection.
The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) and the City of Williams Lake negotiations on a new fringe area fire protection agreement broke down after the City rejected the new proposal.
The Province notified the City of Williams Lake and the Cariboo Regional District of the need to establish a new agreement and eliminate the provincial agreement. This new agreement would have seen the Williams Lake Fire Department continue to provide fire protection services to fringe area residents under one amalgamated agreement between the City and the CRD.
"We are looking to find an equitable agreement between the City and the CRD," Mayor Cook said.
"We want to work with them and saying that discussions 'broke down' doesn't do any good and I would like my colleagues 'across the table' to know that we want to work together," stated Councillor Rathor.
