060712_south_lakeside_fire3The Fire Department, RCMP, BC Ambulance, Fortis and Teresen Gas were at residence in the 1600 block of South Lakeside Drive at approximately 5:10pm this afternoon.

A next-door neighbor said that electrical panel caught fire and cause a few items inside the house to begin smoldering. “While on-scene, myself, the residents, and firefighters noticed a poplar tree make contact with some telephone/electricity wires on a utility pole near the home in the severe wind, causing an electrical arc,” he said.

“I would speculate that this is what led to the panel fire inside the house. The elderly occupants are all right and were evacuated from the residence prior to the fire department's swift arrival. The poplar tree near the utility pole has been removed by BC Hydro.”
