Strong-arm robbery in Boitanio Park
| News |
On June 6 at approximately 8:00pm, the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a report of a robbery that occurred near the skate board track in Boitanio park. Two young males were approached by four teenaged males, who aggressively demanded a coat and other clothing articles from the youths.
Out of fear of being assaulted, the property was handed over, after which the four suspects fled. The RCMP attended and after a search of the area, located the four suspects nearby. All four suspects were known to the police. One of the suspects was subsequently arrested for robbery and will appear in court at a later date.
Update: 07-June-12 at 11:12pm
The mother of the 11 year old boy who had the item of clothing stolen advised Got News Network Inc. that only one of the four boys involved in the theft actually stole the item.
Although her son had been wearing the jacket at the time of the theft and said her son did feel threatened, the woman said she felt the term 'strong arm' was a bit extreme. (That term was used in the original RCMP media release.)
She noted that her son was not injured, and specifically said that how the police handled the situation “made a crappy experience a little less bad”.
