Facebook bragging cost local man $20,000

Bragging on Facebook cost Corbin Joseph, 24, more than $20,000 recently. The Williams Lake man attempted to defraud I.C.B.C. of more than $18,000 after he totalled his own truck.
Mr. Joseph was prohibited from driving at the time he rolled his pick-up in the Springhouse area in January of 2009.
In order to collect the insurance for his truck, he convinced a friend to tell the Insurance Corporation of BC that she had been driving at the time of the accident. ICBC’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was tipped off that Mr. Joseph was bragging on his personal Facebook page that he had rolled his truck after partying at a New Year’s party and got a huge payout for it. When interviewed by the SIU, his friends admitted that Mr. Joseph had driven to the party and said he had even put the truck in the ditch twice that same night.
Mr. Joseph pleaded guilty in BC Provincial Court to ‘Fraud over $5,000’ and ‘Obstructing Justice’ in September.
He was sentenced earlier this month. On the count of fraud, Joseph was fined $2,000 and ordered to pay $18,350 in restitution. On the obstruction charge Mr. Joseph was given a three month conditional sentence, followed by six months of probation.
