A City water main was damaged yesterday during installation of a new natural gas service to the Stampede Grounds.

The damaged occurred on the south side of Mackenzie Avenue near the Chuck’s Automotive complex while a gas line was being bored under Mackenzie Avenue.

The water main break has been repaired, however, work will be ongoing through Friday to install the natural gas line and repair the road.

As a result, Mackenzie Avenue will be closed to all northbound traffic off Highway 20. Southbound traffic on Mackenzie Avenue will be permitted with a detour through the Stampede Grounds.

"Gas line installation and road repairs will be taking place throughout the day today and we are requesting that motorist avoid the area due to limited traffic capacity," states Brian Carruthers, Chief Administrative Officer.
