ASIST Program Comes to the South Cariboo
The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District received information from Interior Health (IH) regarding suicide prevention. This fall Interior Health will be partnering with the South Cariboo Suicide Prevention Advisory Committee to provide new programs for the south Cariboo. The partnership project is to provide the ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Program in September this year, which will increase the community’s capacity to respond actively to persons at risk for suicide. World Suicide Prevention Day is Friday, September 10th.
Water Wise
The CRD reviewed and endorsed a Water Conservation plan for the Central Alexis Creek water system. This plan will now be submitted to the Ministry of Community and Rural Development. The Regional District received grant funding for the construction of he Central Alexis Creek water system from the Canada-British Columbia Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund. A condition of this funding was the submission of a Board approved Water Conservation Plan. Further information is available online at www.cariboord.bc.ca
Building Communities Together
The Cariboo Regional District will be inviting First Nations from across the Cariboo Chilcotin to jointly apply for the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) and the First Nations Summit funding for 2010/11 Community to Community (C2C) Forums. Two topics that were suggested for possible sessions include emergency operations, land use planning consultation and other possible topics. This is an opportunity for all local governments to build relationships. The funding is available for 50 percent of project costs for forums to be completed by March 31, 2011.
Board on the Road
The second of two Board on the Road events for 2010 will be held on September 16 and 17 in Electoral Area I at the West Fraser Fire Hall. On Thursday, September 16, from 5 to 7pm, a complimentary community barbeque will take place in honour of the West Fraser Volunteer Fire Department’s 20th Anniversary. The regular Board meeting on September 17 will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the West Fraser Fire Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend these events.
New Building Inspection Service Bylaw
The Cariboo Regional District gave first and second reading to a proposed regulatory Building Inspection Bylaw. Bylaw number 4636 has been precipitated as a result of the decision to merge the Central and South Building Inspection Service and North Cariboo Building Inspection Service. The proposed Bylaw is posted on the CRD website for public review at www.cariboord.bc.ca or in hard copy at the CRD’s offices in Williams Lake, 100 Mile House or Quesnel.
State of the Region Meetings
Throughout the month of October, the CRD Board of Directors and staff will be undertaking a series of State of the Region open house sessions. A total of three open houses will be taking place in the north, south and central Cariboo/Chilcotin areas. There will be a total of 6 topic specific kiosks and one general kiosk where constituents can raise any topic they wish as follows:
• Public consultation/information dissemination
• Bylaw enforcement
• Regional District Finance/Taxation structure
• Emergency planning
• Solid waste management
• Joint municipal/rural services
• Open topics

Central Cariboo Transit and HandyDART Referenda
Residents of portions of Electoral Areas D, E and F, will be heading to the polls September 25, 2010 to vote on the proposed expansion of Central Cariboo Transit services into their respective areas. There will be two referenda questions with the first one asking if residents wish to receive transit and HandyDART services and the second question will ask if residents wish for HandyDART services only. A map of the proposed service areas along with detailed information about the proposed service is available on the CRD website at www.cariboord.bc.ca
