080310_new_fire_burningThe smoke from a forest fire burning west of Williams Lake across the Fraser River just west of Soda Creek, can clearly be seen from town today.

"That fire was first reported by our airtankers on July 31," said Alyson Couch, a Fire Information Officer from the Cariboo Fire Center at 5:50pm today.  "The last accurate report indicated that it was less than a hectare in size, and is not classified as a priority fire."

Distance of fire from Williams Lake was removed from original article.  Accuracy, although received from the Cariboo Fire Center, was in question and causing some confusion with readers.
