The Minister for Small Business, Technology and Economic Development, Ian Black, was in the Cariboo for a number of stops as he tours the province participating in community based, small business round table discussions. During his stop in Williams Lake, the Minister met with 20 business leaders including representatives from the City, CRD, Community Futures, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development and members of the public.
The purpose of the visit was to ensure small business owners and their employees that the Ministry is working on their behalf to address challenges they may be facing. He also had a chance to meet with business people in the area from Lac La Hache, 100 Mile House, Williams Lake and other surrounding areas in an effort to hear their concerns, understand their challenges and also to inform them about the Small Business Roundtable.
The Small Business Roundtable was established in October 2005 with a mandate to engage small business owners in dialogue to identify the key issues and opportunities facing small businesses in British Columbia, and to develop recommendations for small business and government on strategies to enhance small business growth and success.
The board members of the Small Business Roundtable work in a 3-stage process. They identify, consult, summarize and prioritize the key issues facing small business in British Columbia, provide feedback and advice to Government on specific proposals that impact small business, and summarize findings and recommend actions to be undertaken by small business owners and the small business sector.
More information on the Small Business Roundtable can be found on the Ministries website which is http://www.gov.bc.ca/tted/
