"This experience was an absolute joy," stated Eric Freeston, one of the nine Cariboo residents who went to the BC Legislature today to give MLA Donna Barnett an anti-HST petition signed by 4,000 people from the Cariboo Chilcotin. "We gave the petition to NDP leader Carole James this morning and this afternoon we got to go into the legislature and watch it be handed to Donna Barnett---there was a tremendous response from the NDP side."
The group of nine residents who took the petition to the BC legislature were Gerd and Connie Braune from 100 Mile House, Larry Day, Eric Freeston, Jackie Turner, Bob McNair, Charlie Wyse and two others. Eric said that Gerd Braune, retired physician, spoke to the media on the steps of the legislature, on the negative impact that the HST would have on seniors. The HST vote will take place sometime this week in the legislature.
"We had a tremendous amount of media coverage---both provincial and national," Eric continued. "The trip was well worth it. We definately made our point."
