RCMPshield_crest2Quesnel RCMP have been investigating several reports of fraud over the Internet.

On February 27, 2010, Quesnel RCMP received a complaint of a scam over the Internet in which a person was giving away a 'lovely bulldog puppy' on buysell.com. The seller posted the dog on the Internet and asked the respondent to only pay for the transport of the animal. The respondent was then sent an email from pettravelservices@ aol.com and pettravelcargoltd@ in.com with information about the shipping and expenses. The respondent was then sent information from the seller stating that the puppy is held up at Customs and $600 must be sent to release the dog. The international pet air travel association website has both pettravelservices@ aol.com and pettravelcargoltd@ in.com listed on their website as scam emails. These email addresses and several others are implicated in a puppy fraud out of Cameroon. Other sites that these scam artists have posted on include Kijiji and Buy and Sell from other cities.

The second scam came from the email of mattpennington1@ googlemail.com. The email stated that Matthew Pennington is the solicitor of an estate of a deceased client and he needed the recipient of the email to assist with delivery of proceeds of the estate. The email states the recipient of the email will receive a 40 percent cut of the profits.

The Quesnel RCMP would like to remind the public that scam artists are all over the Internet and encourages the public to do their homework into the seller before sending any money to anyone.
