Two weeks ago, a new sign was erected in front of the Overlander Hotel in Williams Lake and within a month they will be operating as a Ramada Hotel.
The Overlander has been a local landmark for over 38 years. The owner, Lindsey Gasparini, will remain the same and the hotel has spent the last five months completely re-doing the rooms.
Small bulk diesel spill in clean-up stage

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Environment has confirmed that the bulk diesel spill at Beaver Lake Road on Wednesday is being remediated today.
“The Ministry of the Environment Emergency Response Team has been on site since yesterday. Most of the spill was immediately transferred to another tanker at the scene. It was a minor spill and will not affect any watersheds or creeks. There have been no negative environmental effects and it is expected to be completely cleaned up today.”
The Ministry of Environment spokesperson also commented that the driver of the tanker that lost his pup tank due to icy road conditions has been assisting with the clean up.
Missing: Sherwood Henry has not returned to Deni House

Update 23-Nov-12 at 11:21am: RCMP Staff Sergeant Ken Brissard has confirmed that Mr. Henry has been located and is back home safe at Deni House.
Williams Lake RCMP is requesting the assistance of the public in locating Sherwood Henry, a resident of Williams Lake. Mr. Henry, failed to return to his home, the Deni House last evening.
He is described as:
• Caucasian male
• 69 year old
• 5”10”
• 160 lbs
• Normally wears a brown felt cowboy hat and uses a cane
Two missing persons located in Willams Lake today
As RCMP were out searching for Eddie William, they received a call about another young man who had been reported as missing.
Constable McKinnon attended 13 year old Craig Charleyboy’s school, and located him safe and sound.
A very short time later, another RCMP member located Eddie William walking along Highway 20.

99% strike mandate at Gibraltar Mines

On November 20 and 21, CAW union members voted 99% in favour of a strike mandate, hoping to provide the momentum to reach a reasonable collective agreement with Taseko's Gibraltar Mine.
Negotiations have been stalled since the contract talks started last May.

School District No. 27 to receive new and improved school buses
School District No. 27 will receive $1.7 million in funding for the purchase of sixteen new school buses as part of a $14 million investment announced today.
The Government has invested $14 million for 125 new buses across the province. These new clean diesel buses reduce exhaust particulate emissions by 90 per cent compared to the previous 1994 standard. The buses also obtain 30 to 60 per cent better mileage than gasoline-fuelled buses, consequently providing longer service. Currently there are approximately 1,200 buses owned and operated by school districts and another 600 buses operated by bus companies under contract.
Districts will receive buses with wheelchair lifts where required.
Eddie William located safe and sound
Staff Sergeant Ken Brissard of the Williams Lake RCMP has confirmed that Eddie Williams has been located, safe and sound. "Everything turned out well," said Staff Sergeant Brissard.
The Williams Lake RCMP would sincerely like to thank everyone for their assistance in getting the word out and looking for Eddie.

Innovative youth mining apprenticeship pilot
Secondary students in the Cariboo are now able to undertake a secondary school apprenticeship at the Mount Polley Mine through a pilot program, announced Minister of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas Rich Coleman.
The project, which is endorsed by the BC Mining HR Task Force and School District #27 Cariboo Chilcotin is hoping to address the issues of an aging workforce and related skill shortages. The BC Mining HR Taskforce is encouraged by the initiation of innovative recruitment and training plans for young people in high-school, career-preparation programs and stresses that these programs are more important than ever.
Williams Lake RCMP continue the search for high-risk missing
The search contiues this morning for Eddie William, a 20 year old man that police say is 'high risk' because he functions at a level of a 12 year old due to a variety of mental health issues, and requires medication on a daily basis.
He attended his school at Thompson Rivers University and reportedly left at noon on November 21, 2012. Eddie failed to meet his care aid worker at 5:00pm, therefore police and Central Cariboo Search and Rescue were notified.
Police in Williams Lake have confirmed that Eddie was last seen near Walmart at 1:30pm and then observed in the Roberts Drive and Dog Creek area at 5:00pm last night.

TELUS helps fund early breast cancer detection in Williams Lake
For the next six months, TELUS will contribute $25 on behalf of every customer who activates a smartphone in Williams Lake to help Hough Memorial Cancer Society purchase a new Digital Mammography Unit.
“The purchase of a new Digital Mammography Unit will allow our dedicated volunteers at Hough Memorial Cancer Society to allow people a better opportunity for a successful cure, plain and simple”, says Bob MacIntosh, President, Hough Memorial Cancer Society. “We all recognize the importance of early detection, and TELUS’ dedication to helping us provide the best equipment for breast cancer detection within our community is going to make a real difference for us all.”
