022212_wrestler_groupTwelve young athletes from the Williams Lake Wrestling Club competed in ‘Wrestlemania’ last week in 100 Mile House. The elementary school event awards medals to all K-3 Primary level participants, including Williams Lake’s youngest wrestlers, Gage Davis, Trey Alphonse, Steven Campbell, Gabriel Eves, Boston Mason and Corbin Ash.

Haliegh Stubich, a.k.a. ‘Might Mouse’, walked away with a gold medal. Grade 4 wrestler Zane Barr took silver, Nathan Preston battled his way to a 4th place finish and Brayden Hall took bronze. In Grade 5, Alexander Eves also took bronze in Intermediate.

022212_wrestler_pinWilliams Lake ‘Black and Blue’ high school wrestlers provided referee support at the tournament.

The club states that special thanks go out to Mylissa Widdoes, Makaela Haller, Kerry Normand, and Braden Conrod, and to Dan Smith for donating his time to drive the bus to 100 Mile so the youngsters could compete. 

Next up for the Black and Blue Elementary Wrestlers is ‘Smackdown’. This is a local tournament that will be held on March 3rd at Williams Lake Secondary. All who would like to watch, or even volunteer to help out at this tournament are welcome.  

022212_wrestler_smileHigh school wrestlers are off to Provincials this coming weekend in Pentiction, and those who place in the top six in this tournament will go on to Nationals in Fredricton NB in April.
