Excellent showing for Williams Lake Tier 2 team in Prince George

The Williams Lake Tier 2 Peewee team competed this weekend in a 10-team tournament in Prince George. The first game was a 7-2 win over Dawson Creek, with William Paynton successful in three goals and as assist. Tyler Tenning and Cody Swan both had two assists.

The second game was a 4-4 tie with Fort St. John. Williams Lake badly out-played them in the second half of the game but couldn’t net the winner. William Paynton had three goals and an assist and Daine Dubois had one goal and one assist.

Day two in the Peewee tournament saw the Williams Lake team wrap up in round robin play against Kamloops. The Williams Lake team was short three key players due to a flu going through the team, and several team members who played, played under the weather.
Williams Lake started extremely slow, and found themselves down 6-0 in the first period and could not recover, losing 9-2. They ended the round robin with a 1-1-1 record and 2nd in their pool, advancing to the semifinal where they faced Grand Prairie, who finished first in their pool.
In an extremely close and exciting game Williams Lake won 2-1 advancing to the final game this morning to face off against Kamloops again. Williams Lake went in looking for some revenge for their earlier poor showing.

Day three saw Williams Lake face Kamloops in the final. The flu bug continued to ravage the team with numerous players dressing despite being very sick. Kamloops jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but Williams Lake battled back to tie the game 2-2.
The game remained 2-2 until 3 minutes left in the third period when Kamloops scored on a power-play.

Despite many solid scoring chances by Williams Lake in the final few minutes Kamloops iced the game with 30 seconds left to win 4-2.
Haydon Lyons had an outstanding game in net for Williams Lake, with Lane Wycotte and Tyler Tenning scoring for the team.
Kamloops is one of the top ranked Tier 2 teams in the province and Williams Lake showed they can play with them. Overall, it was an excellent showing for Williams Lake in spite of the flu bug going through the team.
