A total of 12 ‘rinks’ competed in the Mixed Bonspiel last week at the Williams Lake Curling Club. This is the second time that the Gradin Rink (AKA ‘Dr. Love’) from Kamloops attended the event.
Purdy Rink, made up of Brian and Alice Purdy and Lisa and Rob Barta, defeated the Miller Rink in the ‘A’ event. The Brady Rink, Cyndy Brady, Roger Kaleta, Bill Garratt and Jesica Ball, won the ‘B’ event, defeating the Geier Rink. Groundwater Rink beat out the Leclerc Rink in the ‘C’ event.

Curling Club president Jerry Moony said the event included fun activities in the lounge, including games from the hit NBC show ‘Minute to Win It’, and the running of the club’s annual ‘horse race.’
“Last year we changed the draw to a round robin format, which allows every team to play five games. This format was well received by the participants this year,” Jerry explained. “I was pleased with the level of competition which included several teams being made up with players who had never played together before. This resulted in some new friendships and possible playing partners for next year.”
He said that the theme of new teams complements the club’s revised goal to establish a new direction of positive energy.
“We’ve hired a new Curling Club Coordinator, Laura Ball, have completed a downstairs renovation funded by the Williams Lake Log Haulers, and have hired a new caterer--True Food Services,” he continued. “We invite people to come and check out the services we have to offer and perhaps book an afternoon ‘Funspiel’ with friends or co-workers.”
Jerry said that the club sends out special thanks to Rona, Schickworks Signs and Stitches, and JAG trucking for sponsoring the Mixed Bonspiel.
