The Williams Lake Tier 2 Rep Hockey Team tore up this ice at the Thanksgiving weekend tournament in West Kelowna this past weekend. Teams from Ft. St. John, Kelowna, Chilliwack, Prince George and Williams Lake vied for top spot in games that included hot hockey action and spectacular individual performances and teamwork by the Williams Lake players.

The local played a total of six games over the weekend, qualifying 2nd in the semi-final round. They played West Kelowna in the semi-finals, and beat them 4-2, coming back from a 2-1 difference in the last five minutes of the third period.
The team went into the finals against Prince George, beating them 2-0 in a tight game. They scored a second goal late in the game, after a 0-0 score for half the game.
“Goal tending was huge in the success of the team last weekend—Hayden Lyons had a stellar tournament,” said assistant coach Parnell Pinette. “The team got stronger with each game they played, playing for each other better and better.”
He said that the team, which has ice practices twice a week and dry land training once a week, will head to Prince George this weekend for back-to-back games in a rematch of the finals. They have two tournaments scheduled in November and one in December.
“This is a big commitment from everyone—the players, the parents and the coaches,” he said. “It’s all worth it when they’re all ‘in’ and it was very rewarding for all of us this weekend.
“Nothing feels better than being a small town and having this kind of experience.”
