The Timberwolves lost a close game against the Spruce Kings in Friday night's game. Justin Bardarson had a Bobby Orr hat trick with a goal, an assist, and a fight. Danny Merth also played a great game with a goal and two assists.
In the first period, Dane Rupert put the T-wolves on the scoreboard after passes from Trent Murdoch and Jason Diehl, but Nick DeSousa scored for the Spruce Kings to tie things up less than three minutes later.
The first nine minutes of the second period were jam packed with action. Things started off when Jeff Earnest scored a power play goal to put the Spruce Kings ahead and then one minute, thirty seconds later he scored again to give PG a 3 to 1 lead. Justin Bardarson scored 45 seconds later, assisted by Justin Hogan and Danny Merth. On their next shift, Danny Merth scored after help from Bardarson and again from Hogan. This left the game tied at 3 apiece.
Both teams battled back and forth until 7:11 into the third period, when Ryan Stanimir scored after help from Danny Merth and Riley Sweeney. This put the Timberwolves ahead, but only 16 seconds later RJay Berra scored for Prince George to tie things up once again.
The Spruce Kings ended up getting the go ahead goal with less than five minutes left in the game, when Kyle Manlow took passes from Tyler Miller and Sam Muchalla.
With less than two minutes left in play, the Timberwolves were charging hard to tie things up, which forced Wes McLeod of the Spruce Kings to take an interference penalty and give the T-wolves a power play. Once the puck was in the Prince George zone, Sean Donnelly was pulled from his net to give the Timberwolves a two man advantage. The Spruce Kings were definitely feeling the pressure but they managed to keep the Timberwolves from scoring and, with only one second left in play, Brooks Robinson scored a short handed, empty net goal to give Prince George the 6 to 4 win.
