The Williams Lake Timberwolves suffered two brutal home game losses this weekend. The first was a 9 to 2 loss against the Vernon Vipers.  Vernon has been the dominating team in the BCHL junior A league with only one loss in 15 games this season. The T-Wolves second game was a 6 to 2 loss against the Langley Chiefs. Despite the rough weekend, the T-wolves managed a win in Monday night’s game against the Powell River Kings.

In the first period against Powell River, the Timberwolves were all over the Kings and although they did not score, they out-shot the Kings 14 to 5.

At the start of the second period, Ryan Stanimir beat the Kings goalie Josh Watson for the T-Wolves first goal of the night. The Kings answered back with a power play goal from Jordan Grant assisted by Chad Niddery and Darcy Hulsman. With less than five minutes left in the second, Kyle Beaulieu took passes from Justin Hogan and Danny Merth, then buried the puck in the net to put the Timberwolves ahead once again.

With the clock winding down, Ryan Stanimir scored another for the T-Wolves to complete his hat trick. Then, with less than a minute left to play, Laine Keyes scored an empty net goal to give Williams Lake a 5-2 lead and seal the win.

Ryan Stanimir took the first star of the game for his hat trick. The Timberwolves goaltender, Sean Donnelly, took second star after stopping 28 of the Kings’ 30 shots.

Another factor in the outcome of the game was the Timberwolves played a very disciplined game. They only took four minutes worth of penalties in their 5-2 win against the Kings versus the 46 minutes worth in the 6-2 loss against the Langley Chiefs.
