Timberwolves Triple Header Weekend

The Williams Lake Timberwolves started their three game weekend with a 6 to 4 loss against the Quesnel Millionaires on Friday night. The Millionaires started things off quickly with a goal by Matthew Herskovitz, only 49 seconds into the game. At 7:21 into the first period the T-wolves tied it up when Colin Wandfluh scored a power play goal from Trevor Fitzgerald and Ryan Stanimir. Later in the first, the Millionaires scored two quick goals and forced the T-wolves coach to replace goalie Kirk Croswell with Evan Dauenhauer since Croswell had allowed three goals in nine shots.
Just over the half-way point of the second period, the Quesnel Millionaires were up 5 to 1 after a power play goal by Tyler French and a short-handed goal by Trevor Hertz. The Timberwolves answered back with a power play goal by Ryan Stanimir from Trent Murdoch and Jake Harcoff. With less than three minutes left in the second, Dane Rupert scored a short-handed goal for the T-wolves assisted by Justin Hogan and Darren Tarasoff.
In the third period, the Mills scored another power play goal by Brandon Watson, assisted by Matthew Herskovitz and Darick Ste-Marie. Later on, Kyle Leung was assisted by Colin Wandfluh for the Timberwolves fourth and final goal.
The Timberwolves second game of the weekend was played at the Cariboo Memorial Complex against the Prince George Spruce Kings. Earlier in the week, the Kings had dominated the T-wolves with a 6 to 0 win but on Saturday goaltender Kirk Croswell ended up being the deciding factor in the second outcome.
At 10:22 into the first period Jason Diehl scored one for the T-wolves assisted by Trent Murdoch. Two minutes later, Williams Lake’s Jake Harcoff scored another with help from Dane Rupert and Kyle Beaulieu. Just before the end of the first period, Trent Murdoch was assisted by Justin Hogan and Darren Tarasoff to put the Timberwolves ahead by three.
In the second period, Zac Rasmussen scored a short-handed goal for the Spruce Kings assisted by Brooks Robinson. Later in the period, Trent Murdoch scored his second goal of the game with help from Trevor Fitzgerald and Ryan Stanimir.
In the third period, Joe Morgan scored one more for Prince George assisted by Brooks Robinson and Josh Pineiro.
At the end of the third, the Timberwolves came out on top with a 4-2 win over the Spruce Kings and goalie Kirk Croswell walked away with the well deserved first star of the game. Croswell stopped an amazing 49 of the 51 shots he was faced with. Trent Murdoch claimed the second star with two goals and an assist.
In Sunday's game, the Timberwolves faced off against the Surrey Eagles who are in second place in the Coastal Conference Division.
Williams Lake opened up the scoring with a power play goal by Dane Rupert from Ryan Stanimir and Justin Bardarson. Neil Blunden later scored one for the Eagles assisted by Morgan Bonner and Jamus Lane. Less than two minutes later, Michael Krgovich put the Eagles ahead after passes from Richard Vanderhoek and Tyler Morley.
In the second period, Tyler Morley got the puck past Kirk Croswell for a short-handed goal that gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
At 1:16 into the third period, Justin Bardarson scored a short-handed goal for the T-wolves, assisted by Trent Murdoch and Kyle Beaulieu. Just over a minute later, Jamus Lane was helped by Bradley McGowan and Clayton Chessa to score the Eagles fourth goal. The Timberwolves ended up scoring one more goal in the third from Anthony DeLong, assisted by Riley Sweeney and Keenan Bailey. However, Williams Lake could not tie things up despite three power play advantages and the Surrey Eagles went on to a 4-3 victory over the Timberwolves.
