Brandon Lilico, Athlete of the Week, Welcome to Williams Lake BC
By Ryan Brink

This week’s athlete of the week is 17-year-old Brandon Lillico, a natural athlete who has excelled at many different sports. Brandon played hockey for 10 years, and during that time he got involved in other sports to stay in shape for hockey season. His focus has shifted since then, and now he is concentrating on rugby, ATV racing, and mixed martial arts.

"I love the adrenaline and attention I get from extreme sports, and I love to train,” he says.

Brandon's training includes weight lifting, running, a strict nutrition program and lots of practice. "Extreme sports require intense training, or else you’re just going to get hurt."

Brandon's accomplishments include winning the Spectra $1500 credit and getting 1st over all in his class for ATV racing in 2008. He was the team captain for the Williams Lake Stags who finished in the top 15 at the 2008 High School Rugby Provincials. In 2009 he took home two bronze medals at the Tiger Balm International Martial Arts Competition in Vancouver: one for Mixed Jujitsu and one for Submission Grappling.

In the future Brandon wants to take part in the Western Nationals for mixed martial arts. He would also like to finish in the top 10 at this year’s rugby provincials and keep winning races on his ATV.

Brandon would like the thank Sheldon Lainchbury of Shogun Martial Arts, Kim Colgate and Florence Gonyer at Broadway Fitness and his rugby coaches Mr. Levitt and Mr. Wilson.
