071510_Seibert1Saturday afternoon the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series makes its debut on the streets of Toronto with the Jumpstart 100. Trevor Seibert circled the date on his calendar months ago.

Seibert – a veteran road course racer from Williams Lake, British Columbia – particularly likes the confines of Toronto’s temporary race circuit.

“I’ve always raced well in Toronto,” says Seibert. “There’s a couple of heavy braking zones, and that really suits my driving style.”

Seibert’s racing resume is impressive. He has victories in some of North America’s most prestigious racing series, but a NASCAR win isn’t among them.

“It would mean a great deal to our race team to get a win,” says Seibert. “We’re racing against the best drivers in Canada, but I think we’ve made great strides in our program.”

“Bill brings alot of knowledge to the team,” says Seibert. “When we raced at Mosport in June it was a learning process. We didn’t see the results we wanted in Mosport, but we learned an awful lot.”

Last week Canada’s leading sports network TSN announced it would air the Toronto event live. The announcement was met with great excitement from teams, but perhaps no team was as excited as Avion Motorsports.

“We’re a little bit off the map when it comes to Canada’s premier teams,” says Seibert. “Coming all the way from BC it can be hard to bring home the excitement of NASCAR racing.

“We’re telling everyone we know about the live television. I’m pretty excited that our friends and family can catch the show at home while it’s happening.”

Every NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race is televised on TSN, but until this weekend they’ve always been aired on a one-week delay. The live television has added benefit to the Seibert family as the father-son racing duo will be split up this weekend for the first time in 2010.

Both Trevor and son Ryley Seibert actively participate in motorsports. While Trevor campaigns a NASCAR team in Canada Ryley has been turning heads in his ARCA Sportsman car. When one drives the other usually spots from the grandstands on two-way radio.

This weekend marks the first time this year a scheduling conflict keeps them apart. Ryley travels to Quesnel’s Goldpan Speedway where he will look to extend his lead in the season’s points standings while Trevor races in Toronto.

“I prefer when dad is here to spot for me,” says Ryley. “He helps me a lot over the radio.

“It’s awesome that I can watch his race live on TSN. We’ll definitely tune in before we head to the track.”

The live TSN broadcast begins at 2:30 p.m EST.
