Legacies left behind by Jack Layton
| Letters - Letter to the Editor |
Editor:
Like most Canadians, I was shocked when Jack Layton’s death was announced. I think he leaves two legacies behind. The first is that he moved the NDP Party from the fringe to the main stage in federal politics. The other legacy he achieved is Quebec having a party that they could vote for federally, other than the Separatists, and I think that truly strengthened Canada’s future.
The country will miss Jack’s leadership, and the party will miss Jack’s leadership.
However, the NDP federal caucus consists of a talented group of individuals, and has a deep source of leadership to draw upon. At this point, though, I believe that the immediate issue is to reflect on Jack’s contribution to Canada.
I want to extend my thoughts and best wishes to Jack’s family—his wife, children and grandchild. I would like to tell them ‘thank you’ for their sacrifices in supporting Jack so that he could devote time for the betterment of Canada.
