Hot dogs --- a part of summer?
| Letters - Letter to the Editor |
Man, is it hot out. Walking outside is like stepping into an oven. Heck, you could probably fry an egg on the side walk.
I personally have to be extremely careful in this summer weather as I suffer from heat stroke very easily. My and our pets are the same.
In less then 10 minutes a pet sitting in a closed car or truck can show symptoms of heat stoke which can and will lead to death.
Dogs and cats cool themselves by panting and sweating through their paws.
During this hot weather your vehicle can quickly heat to high temperatures that make it impossible for your pet to cool down. If you see a pet panting excessively or suddenly stop panting, they may have the start of heat stroke. Their heart will race, they will drool, and start to shake, all symptoms of too much heat. The final phase is convulsions, vomiting, collapse, coma and death. Not a pleasant thing to greeting when you return to your car.
Please leave your pet at home instead of in your car.
If you see a pet in a car on a hot day that you believe may be in trouble please call the Williams Lake Branch of the BC SPCA, Williams Lake Animal Control or the RCMP immediately.
