HST too complicated to undo
| Letters - Letter to the Editor |
Editor,
During the 2009 provincial election campaign the Liberals claimed the Harmonized Sales Tax was not on their agenda. Immediately after the election the Liberals announced their HST plan. Now I see that several Liberal Cabinet ministers traveled to Williams Lake recently to tell us that the HST is too complicated to undo.
During the election campaign Donna Barnett promised to speak on behalf of her constituents. Although more than 8,000 of her constituents signed the Fight HST petition, Ms. Barnett voted with her government to implement this tax.
Further, Ms. Barnett continues to state that the HST is good for the forest industry, saving them $140 million. But Ms. Barnett received $4,648.71 from West Fraser Timber as a campaign contribution. (Source: Elections BC). Clearly Ms. Barnett is listening to West Fraser and not to her constituents.
Once again, large corporations benefit from Liberal government decisions while taxpayers are left to carry the burden of the HST which shifts taxes from big business to individuals and families.
How long will Ms. Barnett continue to defend the HST?
