Anti HST petition winds down for June 27 signing deadline
| Letters - Letters - General |
June 27 is the last chance for people to show their disapproval for the HST as the campaign is scheduled to end. Though the Campaign has until July 6, June 27 was chosen to ensure that it was not rejected for being submitted too late.
"More than 40 percent of British Columbians who voted in the 2009 election signed the Initiative Petition, that is 653,240 voters" says Eric Freeston, Cariboo Chilcotin Fight HST Initiative leader, "even if a few people signed twice or are ineligible, that number is still an amazing number of people opposed to the double cross OF THE HST introduced by the Liberal Government".
The Citizen's Initiative Campaign to stop the HST REACHED ITS goal of acquiring signatures 5 percent higher than the minimum requirement of 10 percent of registered voters in each riding. The additional goal was set in case a signature was rejected for being ineligible.
"In Cariboo Chilcotin it looks like we are going to have over 9000 signatures by June 27. Even if we have a 5 or 10 percent rejection rate it would still leave us with a minimum of 8000 signatures. I think the message from the Cariboo Chilcotin is very clear and it would take an idiot not to understand that the people are telling their MLS, Donna Barnett, to stop the HST!" added Freeston.
Freeston would also like to thank all those volunteers who helped gather the names to make certain this historic campaign is a success.
If anyone has not yet added their name in protest to the HST, and would like to do so before the deadline, petition signing locations are located in the Boitanio Mall Williams Lake, noon until 4:00pm every day - 100 Mile House, Cariboo Mall, daily 9:30 AM to noon, Loon Bay Crafts market on Saturdays. Locations may also be set up at the 108 Mile store and Canim Reserve.
