My family’s new Shih Tzu puppy is incredibly adorable. The ‘Christmas surprise’ is only around 15 inches long, and she will not grow much more. Her little face is amazingly endearing, and her tail is always wagging. She seems to have an underbite: her tongue is hanging out all the time (sometimes we think she does it just to be cute.)
('Ginger' runs around looking for a loving hand to give her a belly-rub or a chew toy. She always finds one.)

It’s said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
After having one of ‘those’ days - awful where nothing went right, I went to visit with my good friends, the Horses, planning to get in at least one good ride on my paint mare, Cupid. She, along with the rest of my little herd, were excited when I pulled up, and came to the fence to greet me. As I trudged over, they nickered eagerly. What a relief. I needed someone to be happy to see me.

Glendale students emark on unique musical adventure
Editorial
By LeRae Haynes
This week a group of Glendale Elementary students shouted ‘La la la!’ at the top of their lungs, sang a song about Sir Galahad and his well-meaning efforts and embarked on a musical adventure that will see them on stage in a few weeks, performing a concert with a five-piece country/rock band.

'Pulling out all the stops' and bringing back the organ
Editorial
By Daven Mapson
The organ is a magnificent and powerful instrument, but it has been declining in recent years. It can sound angry, happy, sad, or almost anything else, and it is wonderful to hear. In various movies, such as The Phantom of the Opera, the villain is portrayed making brilliant, ominous music on it. This brings out our fear and awe for him (or her).
(Daven will peform at the Christmas Eclectica Choir Concert on December 11 in 100 Mile House.)

Friends of Nemiah Valley: BC gives green light to Prosperity
Editorial
Submitted by Friends of Nemiah Valley
A year ago on November 2, 2010, the federal government did the right thing, listened to the CEAA Panel and said no to Taseko Mine's proposed ‘Prosperity’ project.
Now, in a premature move entirely disrespectful of the Tsilhqot’in people and the approval process itself, the B.C. Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations has just signed an Occupant License, good for two years, which permits Taseko Mines Limited (TML) to go ahead immediately with proposed drill holes and test pits for 'New' Prosperity Mine.

Oh, for an ice cream bar

In my last article I described a recent Disney cruise that I took with my family. This trip was so amazing that I think I will tell you about one more thing about it before moving on.

Disney lobby from heaven

“When you’re sitting at the bar,
Not sure where your children are,
Take the tip: you’re on a ship.
They can’t go far.”
---John Charles, entertainer on Disney cruises
(This lobby on the 'Disney Wonder' cruise ship was a particular source of delight for the Mapson family in their recent cruise.)

Friedrich Nietzsche vs. Twilight Saga

Are we intellectually lazy?
We have spent so much time and money investing in the future of our country. There are hundreds of programs across Canada devoted to children and youth, to bettering their lives and their education. So why is it that so many teenagers and young adults are not as educationally inclined as they used to be?
