Human interest

By LeRae Haynes

Members of the Williams Lake Pipe Band gathered at Johnston Meier Insurance yesterday to celebrate a $500 donation from General Manager Brenda Taylor. The money will be used to help outfit the band, who also needs tartan for kilts for the new youngsters in the group, jackets, vests and sporrans.

Band members performed at the Polar Bear Swim on New Year's Day, will perform for Robbie Burns Night at the Royal Canadian Legion and at the WIlliams Lake Seniors Village. The band has performed at the High School Rodeo parade, the Stampede Street Party and the Relay for Life.

They have played for weddings, funerals and private functions, and have recently taken on four new bagpipe students and a drumming student, all in elementary and high school. A new group of Highland Dancers, led by Nara Ringlinger, are rehearsing to perform with the WIlliams Lake Pipe Band for Robbie Burns Night on January 23.
