Local kids on the run to Harrison tomorrow
| Human interest |
Williams Lake ‘Kids Running for Kids’ are on their way to Harrison Hot Springs tomorrow en route to Vancouver. They have run in Williams Lake, 108 Mile, Cache Creek, Clinton, Lytton and Boston Bar since leaving Williams Lake last weekend.
They are fundraising for BC Children's Hospital.
“This was great,” one mom said today. “We got many ‘honks’ from trucks and waves from tourists, and local radio alerted people to watch for us.”
In both Cache Creek and Clinton, the runners were joined by families whose children have been helped by BC Children’s Hospital.
(In Lytton the lods were joined by Chief Janet Webster and Youth Ambassadors Tori and Shania McIntyre.)
Parents explained that they keep track of laps by marking each one on the runner’s hand.
After the kids finished 5km they ‘check in’ and many of the runners are challenging themselves to run more. “The older runners encourage the younger ones,” another parent said. “This is about teamwork, too.”
