Keep your eyes open for kids on the run in the Williams Lake Stampede Parade and the Street Party. ‘Kids Running for Kids’ is putting in final appearances in Williams Lake this weekend before heading to Vancouver, running on tracks along the way in the last leg of their fundraising project for BC Children’s Hospital.
The group of 70 kids has been training and fundraising since last September. They surpassed their first goal of $25,000, as well as their second goal of $50,000. Now at $52,000, the group is delighted that the Stampede is sponsoring them with half of the proceeds from the ‘Tough Enough to Wear Pink’ campaign and introducing them to the community at the Stampede on Friday.
Many of the 70 young participants have either received treatment there, or have family members and friends who benefitted from care at the facility, and this is a cause very close to their hearts.
The Williams Lake Pipe Band is serenading ‘KRFK’ at the Williams Lake Secondary School track at 3:00pm—the kids’ first official run on their trek to Vancouver. Any and all kids are welcome to come and join the run, and the community is enouraged to come and cheer.
On July 1st the kids will be in 108 Mile to participate in Canada Day celebrations and run a 10km loop around the lake. They will also run in Clinton, Cache Creek, Lytton, Boston Bar, Harrison, Mission, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and will present a cheque to Children’s Hospital on July 7th.
The CN Miracle Match promotion is matching all KRFK’s donations from June 29th through July 7th.
Kids Running for Kids’ has set up an independent community event on the Children’s Hospital website for fundraising and that people can donate at www.bcchf.ca/kidsrunningforkids
