Williams Lake archer Al Campsall from the Cariboo Archers arrived home early this week from Halifax after coming in first at the Federation of Canadian Archers 3D Championships. Held outside Halifax, Nova Scotia over the long weekend, the event featured more than 170 of the best archers in Canada representing all of the provinces.

The only archer ever to win five Canadian 3D Championships in the history of the Federation of Canadian Archers, Al said that after 79 targets over three days, the championship came down to a single target. “I had to score a perfect 11 point shot, which is the very centre of the 10 ring, to win. Despite the extremely tight competition, where only five points separated 1st place from 4th, all of the other men heartily congratulated me when my arrow pierced the 11 ring to win by one point. What a huge relief---and yes,” he said, “I was wearing the ‘lucky alpaca socks’ given to me by one of my students.”
He said that all in all it was a tremendous experience in the ‘Bluenose’ province and that he plans to return with his wife for a longer more leisurely visit in the future. “I now have my sights, if you pardon the pun, set on the World Championships September 2011 in Austria,” he stated. “My hope is to ‘make’ the Canadian Team and represent Canada in Austria.”
