Living in the midst of a world that daily seems to be spiraling out of control and holding little promise of a secure future, we all live with the fear of having to face it all ALONE. No one to turn to, nowhere to go, helpless, hopeless--lost. Teenager, youth, adult, elderly, single, married, divorced: sooner or later we all struggle with the desolation of isolation and the terrible despair of feeling like there is no one that cares or that we can tell what is going on deep within our hearts.

So I come to you and say, “You are not alone. God is right here with you.” And you reply, “Yeah, right.” Yet out of the Word of God and my own personal experiences I can say, “He is here and you are not alone.”

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Psalm 139:7-10

These words were penned from the heart of David---the man after God’s own heart---the man who returned with his men to his city to find it in ruins and their wives and children captives of their enemy. It was at this moment, when his own men and friends turned against him, that David cried out to God and God answered with guidance and restoration. David had a right to pen those words because he had lived them. David knew what it was like to feel on top of the world and he knew what it was like to live in his own personal hell. He knew what it was like to feel distanced from friends and family as though he indeed dwelt in the uttermost parts of the sea. Yet it was David who also wrote,

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…
(Psalm 23:4)

In your time of need, when you feel nobody in the whole world knows or understands what you are going through, it is God, who through His Spirit and His Word right here today is declaring unto you, “Wherever you are in your life…I am here with you.” I have experienced many joys and many sorrows over the years. I remember one time many years ago now that remains fresh in my mind even to this day. A time when I was completely discouraged, hurting and alone. There were many people around me but I felt completely isolated. I smiled on the outside, I laughed and told corny jokes but inside I was crying out for comfort. I sought heaven and I called out to a God that seemed so remote, crying, “Don’t you even care?” And it was in that dark moment in my life, that I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked around at the man that stood beside me and he said, “You are really hurting and down.” I started to deny it. He replied, “God told me, and He also wanted me to tell you this, ‘You are not alone, He is with you.’” At that moment my heart found its release as my tears washed away all the hurt and despair, comforted by the knowledge that I was not alone.

So here you are today and you are not reading this article by chance. You are in a struggle and you feel like you are carrying your burden alone. But God is saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). And above all do not forget---you are not ALONE.
