Our world today is overshadowed by growing acts of violence, economic recession and emotional uncertainty. It seems like the values and security of a former generation are slipping away and it leaves us crying in the darkness for someone that we can turn to and something we can rely upon. It is at this moment that the power of God’s Word shines forth as a beacon in the night. Matt 24:35 states, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” There is nothing more comforting and encouraging than when God lets us know through His Word that, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb 13:5);
But how can this help when I’ve been laid off from my job and can’t find another one, when I am sick and weary in mind and in body, when my loved one has left me to struggle on alone? I encourage you to try it. When you need comfort, turn to the Word. When you need encouragement, turn to the Word. When you need guidance, turn to the Word. When you are weary and it seems like you have no hope, begin reading, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.” (Psalm 23). The Power of God’s Word works!
In the days ahead, instead of allowing the cares of this life to drag us down with feelings of despair we need to remember that there is something left that we can count on and take the time to let His Word speak to our hearts and to light our way.
