High school rodeo competitors converged on the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds this morning for the parade to kick off the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals, which will take place over the weekend. Young participants from BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan were carried in style for the parade with colourfully decorated local wagons and teams. Members of the Williams Lake Pipe Band Doug White, Joe Bazan and John Visentin provided bagpipe accompanyment to the parade.

Nearly 140 young participants will compete in bull riding, bareback riding, boys and girls cutting, goat tying, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, pole bending, breakaway roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. The Canadian High School Rodeo Finals were held in BC for the first time last year, also in Williams Lake. the competitors qualified within their own province first and at the end of the high school season, the top 12 compete in the provincial finals. The top five provincial finalists move on to the Canadian Finals.

Tie Down Roping
1st Place with 37 points was Blake Gagnon of Alberta

Breakaway Roping
1st Place with 36.5 points was Lawrie Saunders of Alberta

Saddle Bronc Riding
1st Place with 45 points was Coleman Watt of Alberta

Bull Riding
1st Place with 31 points was Landon Lockhart of Manitoba

Boys & Girls Team Roping
1st Place with 34.5 points were Leonard Johnson & Dylan Johnson of Alberta

Girls Cutting
1st Place with 43 points was Brooke Dalton of Alberta

Boys Cutting
1st Place with 44 points was Nick Telxeira of British Columbia

Girls Goat Tying
1st Place with 37.5 points was Jena Shearer of Alberta

Barrel Racing
1st Place with 35 points was Jaycee Hawk of Alberta

Poll Bending
1st Place with 39 points was Jaycee Hawk of Alberta

All Around Cowgirl went to Jaycee Hawk of Alberta with 74 final points 

All Around Cowboy went to Dustin Shields of Britich Columbia with 85 final points
