Kids learning to sail, more than just fun
| Events |
Children between the ages of 6 and 15 years old have a great opportunity coming to Williams Lake. The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex along with the BC Sailing Association will be offering an exciting sailing camp at Scout Island from August 13-17.
Participants will learn sailing terminology, knots, and how to sail by means of games and activities both on and off the water. Seven-foot Optimist sailboats as well as two person kayaks will be used in the program. By the end of this fun course, students will be able to safely sail and kayak on their own as well as earning a CANSail certification. Professionally trained and Canadian Yachting Association Certified coaches ensure every experience is a positive and safe one.

We are also seeking a volunteer who is interested in helping with the program. No qualification is necessary. The volunteer must be at least 16 years of age. This is an extremely rewarding position. You must be great with young kids, patient, able to function in a high-energy environment and willing to get wet and have lots and lots of fun! Ideally, this person might have interests in one day becoming a sailing instructor themselves. BC Sailing Association is even willing to offer a complimentary coaching course in the spring to this individual!
If you are interested in registering as a participant, or to volunteer for the sailing camp, please call the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex at 250-398-7665.
