Natural and hand-crafted beauty blended seamlessly at the 2012 Williams Lake Quilt and Garden Tour, where approximately 150 guests enjoyed a visit to 10 unique gardens festooned with colourful, eye-catching quilts.

The Williams Lake Garden Club and the Cariboo Piecemakers were partners in the event, with 50 volunteers on task for organizing and presenting the tour. All proceeds go to the Hough Memorial Fund and the Women’s Contact Society.
The 10 gardens on the tour represented a range of types and styles, including shade gardens, full-sun gardens, compact gardens, lovely xeriscape-type gardens and vegetable plots. There was rockery, décor, retaining walls, natural wood enhancement, bridges and stone work, as well as flowering trees, herbs, vines, shrubs and an enormous range of flowers.
“The tour was amazing: it was inspiring to see how creatively people worked with their topography,” said Quilt and Garden Tour Committee member Sheila Wyse. “There were these tiny, perfect gardens—peace and quiet—in the middle of the city.
“It was stunning to see the quilts and the gardens together. The quilts were displayed on fences, on clotheslines, between trees,” she continued. “We had people on the tour from Quesnel, 100 Mile House, Vancouver, 108 Mile, Williams Lake and Lac La Hache.”

The Quilt and Garden Committee, headed by Gerry Gebert, worked hard to organize and present the tour. The Williams Lake Garden and the Cariboo Piecemakers clubs will enjoy a slide show of the event in the next couple of months, in preparation for the 2013 Quilt and Garden Tour.
